New Zealand Red Cross plays a vital role in providing assistance to vulnerable people in New Zealand and overseas whose lives have become vulnerable through conflict, disaster or circumstance.

We are an organisation with over 14,500 voluntary members and 500 staff and we are seeking an enthusiastic and committed employer liaison to join our newly established Pathways to Employment programme.

The goal of Pathways to Employment is to assist refugee background individuals to find meaningful and sustainable employment and to be economically independent. Employment not only improves economic independence; it is also important to social wellbeing and connection to New Zealand society.

The purpose of the Employer Liaison role is to grow the pool of employment opportunities for former refugees in the Christchurch region. Drawing on your Career Development experience, you will assist in preparing them for their job search and engagement in the New Zealand workforce. Your proven ability to engage collaboratively with clients will ultimately facilitate successful employment relationships. There is an expectation that work experience, internships, trials and paid employment will be monitored for an initial period.

The role includes intensive, individualised work with both refugee background clients and potential employers. As such, you will require competence in intercultural communication and experience working with people from diverse and marginalised backgrounds as well as an awareness of New Zealand employer priorities and familiarity with employment organisations and networks in the region.
